The UK government has announced a new Depot Charging Scheme in an effort to accelerate the
roll-out of zero emission commercial vehicles.
The scheme covers 75% of chargepoint and civil costs incurred, up to a maximum of £1 million across all sites. There is no limit to the number of sites you can apply for, but the scheme is limited to one application per organisation. The scheme is open to public and private sector fleets, local authorities and non-profit organisations, located in England, Scotland, Wales and/or Northern Ireland.
The Government is supporting the road freight and coach industry to decarbonise their fleets and journeys. By kickstarting the installation of charging infrastructure at depots and providing funding where costs are commercially unviable, the Government is supporting the roll out of zero emission commercial vehicles. By part-funding both the vehicle and the infrastructure, the Government seeks to support operators in installing reliable charging infrastructure at their depots for any battery-electric vehicle purchased.

There are no limits to the number of sites you can apply for as long as they meet the criteria. All sites should be covered by the same application. The scheme is available in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. It is not available in the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man.
Eligible costs covered include the purchase cost of charge points of any type or speed (these will need to match the applicants’ specific fleet and duty cycle requirements). It will also cover the costs of labour and materials required for the installation and energisation of the charge points, including civil engineering work, electrical components and electrical contractor work. EVs and grid connection costs are not included in the scope of eligible expenditure.
The scheme is time limited and will work on a first-come-first-served basis. The grant will close either when funding has been exhausted, or by 28th November 2025.
